Hello Everyone.....I was wondering if any of you have had success with memory foam mattresses? I am currently looking to buy a new mattress as the one we've got now is making me so sore and painful I can't stand it any more! The problem is that my husband likes a very firm mattress and I think I need a soft one! So I wondered about putting a memory foam mattress topper on my half of the bed. Has anyone else had this problem with their partners and if so, how did you manage to overcome it without resorting to seperate beds?! Ooh and also, does the memory foam make you hotter at night? Thanks everyone.....Allison

Hi Allison
We went for 2 linked beds from John Lewis (making a king size bed) so we could each choose our mattress. We got different hardnesses ... tried all the beds in John Lewis to see which was the most comfortable. My husband didn't like memory foam, but the one we got with multi-springs is actually very similar (although I didn't tell him that!). It solved all my aches and pains in bed... but was a bit expensive.
I liked the memory foam, but it seems you either love it or hate it.....
Probably worth going round the bed shops and trying different ones out... I went round on my own first, and then narrowed it down to a few I liked; then took my husband!!

Hi Allison,
We have a memory foam mattress, it's very comfortable. We don't find it hot to sleep on. Wouldn't be without it now, it did take a few days to get used to it, we also have foam memory pillows. I found the pillow a little more difficult to get used to but love it now.
I've never tried one of the foam toppers so can't give an opinion on them.
Good luck.

hi, i have memory mattress and 2 memory pillows, my son bought my mattress so i didnt get the fun in choosing but he got it right and i love it,yes i get hot at night but i am a very hot person i just put on lighter bed covers to suit the seasons and me,my son and daughter have the toppers and find them very good, i have 2 pillows one it thicker/harder than the other so i can use whatever one feels right at the time, they are hard to get used to but i sit with it at my back before i settle down to warm it up and it moulds better to the neck when warm, remember that the mattress can only be swiviled round not turned over,i do actually carpet shampoo mine once a yeaar in hot weather my son/daughter helps me as they are very heavy,i get them to drag it into the back garden lay it on a plastic shower curtain and give it a shampoo then drag it back in onto base to dry, i sleep in the spare room till its dry and that is oddly uncomfortable going back to a normall mattress, good luck have fun finding one, hope hubby gets fair play, dorothy

I got a memory foam mattress earlier this year from Amazon (make was Hypnia), it was a great investment as the old sprung one I had was terrible

I got a non turn one and it came with 2 free memory foam pillows which have been great with my shoulder problems.

It's amazing how much a new mattress can help :)

I just want to add a note of caution regarding memory foam mattresses. A friend bought a really expensive one (£1,000) but ended up sleeping in the spare room for much of the year because he found it too hot. As the mattress has contact with more of the body surface area you can become quite hot. I tend to get hot, bothered and sweaty at night so I don't think one of these would suit me. Good luck with finding your perfect bed. X

Hi

Definately try getting a pocket sprung one
We've got a memory foam one
But it's hot
And it uses the heat to mould to your body
You can get cool toppers
We tried these
It did help

Apparently the more expensive the memory foam the better ie the top brands aren't as hot.
I'm not sure how true that Is
There are cooler ones nowadays

We have a bed from laybrook.
I have to tell you that's wonderful !
They made it to measure heights
And right mattress
We've got a sitty uppy downy double
how to be a velvet bulldoser

i've got a pocket sprung one and it's so comfy. it moulds around me with good support as well.

the more pocket springs the comfier it is,

i did look into all types of mattress a couple of years ago and i know a memory foam wouldn't be for me.

I made enquiries about memory foam mattresses when we decided to change ours. We found two disadvantges, one, as others have said they can be very hot, and secondly, because they mould to the shape of your body they can be hard to get out of when stiffness is bad. I guess a topper would not be so bad.
Not sure what mattress we've got now, could be airsprung, must have a look but its comfy most of the time but when stiffness is bad everything seems more uncomfortable!!
